ZD30 DI engine. Had a really bad reputation due to engine failure, which is due to the factory running low boost and tuning too rich so that when the controls went slightly out of range they could damage a piston. The bottom end was very strong and could take a lot more boost than factory with great success.
TD42. Came fitted with a turbo from factory and some were intercooled.

Patrol Series 4 from October 2004 to 2016
TD42 - A poplar choice due the higher capacity these respond well to mild modifications with intercooler, injection pump and turbo upgrades. Uses an 11mm Bosh VE style injection pump, with ECU controlled timing valve.
ZD30 CRD - The common rail version of the ZD30, was the best of the lot and with its amazingly strong bottom end they can produce some serious power with enough fuel and air. We would suggest our extra large front mount if you planned to achieve the best from these engines. High flow injectors and turbos specifically designed can achieve near instantaneous boost response and a strong torque curve.
