High Performance Diesel Intercooler to suit the 1HZ and 1HD-FTE installations in the 100 and 105 series Landcruiser. Different options are possible if you want a crossover delete or have a round or flange mouth turbo.

The kit for the round mouth turbo and FTE airbox lid includes silicon, clamps and alloy spacer to get from the airbox to the front of the turbo.

Our core is 550x300x76, which is over 4.5 x great surface area than the HDJ100 factory core and is thicker for increased cooling.

The 1HD-FTE is under-rated by so many who have not experienced their true potential.  It is a robust engine which is capable of significantly more performance than factory while still maintaining its reliability and economy.

Equally the 1HZ is a solid working engine that will give many hundreds of thousands of kilometres of service.  There are a number of turbo systems on the market and each will make a significant difference to performance. Caution should be taken when making such changes as the 1HZ is prone to failure once tuned with a rich mixture after turbocharging as combustion temperatures rise. Intercooling, along with more boost pressure helps to keep the mixture leaner and will typically reduce the EGT by 100-150degC.

The standard factory intercooler core becomes ineffective when making improvements to performance.  Additionally the piping to supply the intercooler have been seen to burst above 22-23psi when in good condition.  As the 100 series cruisers were manufactured between 2001 and 2006 the single cloth reinforcing rubber hoses and plastic piping are becoming brittle with age.

This is a front mount intercooler kit developed from custom installs done for high performance upgrades.  Typically this included a performance turbocharger, injectors and a module for the 1HDFTE.  This unit will support up to 240rwkw and provide maximum cooling while doing so.

This kit comes with everything required to front mount the intercooler behind the grill.  It is ideal, regardless whether you have and automatic or manual transmission as the factory automatic transmission oil cooler is retained. The central bonnet support is also retained.

As seen in the pictures we have modified this installation for those who wish to remove the crossover over and EGR valve. Equally if you have a manual transmission and have limited space at the front (seen with some winch installations), we have a different mounting where the intercooler sits much closer to the radiator. Ask for details about this setup.

Kit includes

- Plated mild steel brackets for mounting the intercooler with additional bolts. The use of plated mild steel is due to its resistance to fatigue when compared to aluminium and avoids the potential for electrolysis as seen with stainless steel brackets. Electrolysis will cause mild steel to rust rust when metal to metal contact is made to stainless.

- intercooler, bar and plate for additional long term durability.

- stainless 2.5" pipework, mandrel bend where possible, then TIG welded and polished.  Ends are flared.

- heavy duty 6mm, 5 layer, silicon elbows and joiners.

- quality Breeze Aero clamps, which we find are more reliable undo high load than T-bar clamps. They are also much easier to work with.
